| Paintings and mosaics in Pompeii and Ercolano: |
First Style projection
|
This
fragment is part of rusticated projections with black background
which was removed from the inside of the northern wall of the
basilica between the 24th February and the 31st March 1841 on the
instructions of F.M. Avellino, Director of the Archaeological Museum
and Excavation at Pompeii, with the aim of preserving the graffiti
thereon alongside the other eighteen pieces which came from the same
building. On this piece, which is one of the precious few examples
of First Style decoration in the Museum, are written four lines:
In studio.........
.........atax.......
Ianitor oro nomine certe sed sit certa
s.......s. Venus faciet cert.......iai
