Profile of young man
|
This
medallion framed in a garland of small leaves shows the portrait
of a young man facing to the right and holding open a scroll.
Representation of a bust in profile is much rarer than those
carried out full-face, or even at three-quarters, but even this
hallmark fails to raise the quality of this fresco above that of
an inferior reproduction of a poorly understood and badly
reworked model, by workmen who could hardly be described as
artists.
The indifferent effects achieved by the foreshortening, the lack
of depth, the stiffness of the drapery and the inconsistency of
the hand clasping the volumen all reveal a technical skill on
the part of the workman who carried out this medallion to be
quite different from that used on other works.
